Obit for Michael Joseph Stangle

Michael Joseph Stangle
June 18, 1942 - April 1, 2013

Michael was born in a log cabin in Custer, South Dakota. He moved to Deadwood to start school where he “walked” to school in a foot of snow going “up- hill” both ways! He left Deadwood in 1960 to enlist in the U.S. Navy.

He attended boot camp, dental technician school and dental lab school, all in San Diego. Then was transferred to Camp Pendleton Marine Corps Base to attend a field medical school where he became a field medical hospital corpsman with the 3rd Marine Division in Okinawa, Japan. He also spent a nine month stretch in Laos. Back from Okinawa, he was transferred to the Bonhomme Richard CVA-31 jet aircraft attack carrier until he was discharged. His mother, Mary Jean Arnold, had moved to Denver so that is where he decided to hang his hat.

He attended Colorado State University in Fort Collins and Western Stage College in Gunnison, Colorado. Michael worked for several commercial dental labs before starting his own business. He owned and operated Stangle's Ceramic Studio for almost 40 years.

He has two beautiful daughters and three grandchildren. Upon retirement, he looked forward to spending more time fishing with his grandchildren and friends. Woodworking was also a passion he wanted to pursue.

He is preceded in death by his father Joe Walter Stangle and his brother Patrick Martin Arnold, SJ. He is survived by his daughters Michelle Stangle of Westminster, Colorado and Janell Edwards of Golden, Colorado; grandchildren Natalia M. Padilla, Anthony A. Edwards and Theron Michael Edwards; mother Mary Jean Arnold; and, sisters Mary Alice Swartout (Wes), and Jo Ellen Nickerson (Ken). He was dearly loved by all his nieces and nephews and close friends.

His sense of humor will always be remembered.

A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
