After a brief illness, John Baggaley passed away peacefully in Woodland CA, on Sunday, April 7, 2013. He was born in Sioux Falls and raised in Deadwood, SD. He graduated from the University of South Dakota in 1956 and received his master's degree from Purdue University in 1958.
John was a Human Resources professional in the airline industry and healthcare field. He moved to Woodland in 2003 shortly after his marriage to wife Shanna.
John was an avid traveler, had a warm sense of humor, and always had stories to tell. He read widely, loved sports, and enjoyed jazz music. John was an active member of the United Methodist Church. He volunteered for numerous organizations including Meals on Wheels, and the Sacramento Jazz Festival. He served eight years on the board of Fourth & Hope (Yolo Wayfarer Center) and two years as a Yolo County Grand Juror. He participated in overseas service projects through Global Volunteers and United Methodist Volunteers in Mission to Peru, Ecuador, Mexico, Cuba and India.
He will be greatly missed by his wife Shanna, his beloved children Brenda, John and Brian, and his loving step-family Dana, Andy, Nancy, John, Monica, Valentina, Steve and Julie as well as his two sisters, Mary Nuttal and Donna Ewens. Also missing John will be his loyal dog Willie and cat Molly.
The family is very grateful to the skilled and caring staff of Woodland Memorial Hospital's Intensive Care Unit.
A service will be held at Woodland United Methodist Church, 212 Second St., Woodland, at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 13, with lunch to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Woodland United Methodist Church.
The Woodland Funeral Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
